- Environmental geochemistry (redox reactions in solution, reactive intermediate species, in situ monitoring)
- Crystal chemistry of minerals (site distribution of iron, magnetic properties, electronic and structural phase transformations)
- Structure and properties of melts and glasses (coordination of iron and its effects on physical properties, redox relations, application to natural magmatic systems)
- Material structure and properties (oxygen vacancies, ionic conductivity, iron distribution and concentration)
- Methodological developments (Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray emission spectroscopy using the electron microprobe, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, synchrotron nuclear resonance methods)
