The Bayerisches Geoinstitut invites applications for Ph.D. studentships in the fields of experimental and theoretical geosciences.
The main aim of the institute is to investigate the structure, composition and processes occurring in the interiors of the Earth and other planets, primarily through experiments performed at high pressures and temperatures. Research topics include, but are not restricted to:
- physical and chemical properties of mantle minerals
- crystal structure of minerals at high pressure
- phase transitions and phase equilibria
- reaction kinetics
- rheology and textural evolution during high-strain deformation
- properties of silicate liquids
- chemical and physical processes of planetary core formation

Ph.D. students will be supported by external funding by staff scientists listed below. Accordingly, a potential applicant for a Ph.D. studentship should contact one of the staff scientists to discuss topics for his/her thesis research and financial plans.
