Bayerisches Geoinstitut invites applications by undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of geosciences, planetary sciences, material sciences, solid-state physics and chemistry for internships at Bayerisches Geoinstitut. The training offered will be in the fields of mineral physics, experimental geochemistry, and structure-property relations of materials and covers methodologies such as high-pressure - high-temperature synthesis and phase stability (up to 26 GPa and 2500 K in large-volume multianvil apparatus), in-situ measurements of physical properties (e. g. equation of state, rheology and transport properties), phase characterization by XRD, TEM and SEM, and various spectroscopies (IR, Raman, NMR, Mössbauer). The institute is well equipped in these fields in terms of facilities and technical support, and its staff members will provide training in their area of expertise. Successful candidates will receive instruction in their field of interest and will be assisted in performing an experimental and/or analytical project during the internship.
The typical duration of such internships will be 8 - 12 weeks. Bayerisches Geoinstitut will help successful applicants to raise funds for travel and living costs for the duration of their stay in Bayreuth and help them to find suitable accommodation. Bayerisches Geoinstitut is an equal opportunity employer.
